BBL Fans seem to love Power Surge Rule and it has worked in favour of batting teams quite a few times. But what exactly is it?
Power Surge is basically a floating 2 overs period, which batting team can avail at any time after first 10 overs of Innings have been bowled. Only 2 fielders are allowed outside 30 yards circle, that helps batters to score boundaries and accelerate their run rate. Most of the teams tend to take it around 14-16 overs but it can vary often according to situation of the game.
Power Surge comes at the cost of reducing initial 6 overs Power Play to 4 overs at start of the Innings and was implemented in BBL in 2020. It is not followed in International T20s and most Franchise T20 leagues apart from BBL. Initial Power Play consists of 6 overs , again allowing only 2 fielders outside 30 yards circle.
