PSL 2025 ( Edition 10) started last night after a well presented opening ceremony followed by first match between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandar. IU won the opener easily and historically they have performed really well as a well balanced team in PSl editions so far.
There is a big question around the success and maintenance of PSL standard for which this tournament is known for. For years it was thought to be second best cricket Franchise League after IPL , but that yet needs to be seen whether it meets those expectations. The league draft saw inclusion of players which were not even picked up by IPL (e.g David Warner) . Some old players were kept in squads despite not so impressive last season performances like David Weise for Lahore Qalandars.
Pakistan Cricket Board has been under tough times recently because of changes in management, Chaimans, staff , coaches , and not so impressive performances by Pakistan Team during their NZ tour. With IPL happening at the same time , and without much broadcasting ability, viewership around the world is a challenge as opposed to IPL which is readily available for streaming. It will be interesting to see whether PSL can pull crowd in high numbers especially in Karachi where last 2 seasons were rather disappointing from crowd attendance point of view. I am sure we will see some thrilling game and performances from both local and overseas players this season.
